Portraits: Works on Paper by Joe Radoccia
October 2 - 31, 2015
Opening reception Friday, October 2, 6-9pm
The goal with these portraits is to explore working in a much larger scale than I have in the past, while sustaining an intimate engagement between the subject and viewer. I am seeking to create not just big representational images of men, but also psychological portraits of individual emotional identities.
I use the larger-than-life format and representational style to create from a distance an image of strength and clarity. The direct gaze of my subject is intended to draw the viewer in closer and engage them in my process; a paper surface frantic with scribbled pencil lines, brush strokes and bristles, glazes, drips, and splashes, all surrounding islands of controlled rendering.
