Facets: New Work by Patrick Willett and Catherine Willett
September 2 - 30, 2016
Opening Reception: Friday, September 2, 6-9pm
Studio Hart is proud to present an exhibit of work by artists Patrick Willett and Catherine Willett. “Facets” features a collection of works on paper, rendered in ink or watercolor. The two are father and daughter, both exploring natural themes. Although they are well established in the Buffalo arts scene, this is the first time the two have shown together. Upon viewing, one is struck by both the similarities and differences in the artists’ techniques, style and subject.
Patrick Willett’s work explores our sense of place and direction often focusing on the details of places and objects burned into our memory. He is best known for his highly detailed work in watercolor and ink.
Catherine works primarily with ink on paper, and explores the nuances of natural forms. She experiences repetitive line work as a meditative act, and finds creative release through the investigation of natural patterns, combined with reflection on memory and thought sequences. She sees rock formations that refract light and color like voices or faces from a memory. To her, delicate bits of the past and present come together and work metaphorically to represent layers of relationships, and intricate emotional constructs.
