I have always drawn characters on whatever surface is available --paper tablecloths at restaurants, used envelopes, my friend's socks -- so when I found these little wood forms, I couldn't wait to put my colored pencils to work!

The characters are suggested by the patterns of the wood grain, as well as recent encounters or conversations and emotions I've had in my day. In some ways they are a visual diary.
